I’ve suffered much from acid reflux and the burning pain can be very intense all the way from the throat to the pit of the stomach, as if someone put a hot steel rod into your upper digestive tract. The doctor advised me to go off all sodas, peppermint candy, cocoa and a few other things I can’t remember now. Milk helps. Oily foods suck. I like a lot of fruits, but I have to be careful, since fruit with high acid can really mess things up if you eat too much. Steam your foods as much as possible instead of frying. Apart from those things I mentioned you can eat most anything. Best wishes!
Heartburn. Heartburn is the primary symptom of GERD. It is a burning sensation that radiates up from the stomach to the chest and throat. Heartburn is most likely to occur in connection with the following activities:
After a heavy meal.
Bending over.
Lifting.
Lying down, particularly on the back.
According to one study, nearly three-quarters of patients with frequent GERD symptoms experience them at night. Patients with nighttime GERD also tend to experience more severe pain than those whose symptoms occur at other times. One study found that patients with night-time pain reported levels of severity that were similar to those reported in angina and congestive heart failure.

In most cases, the symptoms of acid reflux are painful and uncomfortable but not seriously damaging to a person’s health. These types of symptoms are referred to as “uncomplicated” acid reflux. The three most common symptoms are nausea, regurgitation, and heartburn.
Patients with acid reflux often report suffering from nausea. In fact, nausea as a result of acid reflux is so common that when a patient experiences nausea with no apparent cause, a doctor usually suspects acid reflux as the culprit.
Equally as common as nausea occurring from acid reflux is regurgitation. Regurgitation occurs when refluxed liquid actually backs up into the mouth. Sometimes, this liquid can contain food. When a patient regurgitates, they often experience a burning sensation as refluxed liquid and food bypass the UES (upper esophageal sphincter) and make their way into the mouth. This burning is often accompanied by an awful, acidic taste. If you continue to experience regurgitation, it can actually cause damage to their teeth as the acidic substance erodes the enamel that encases each tooth.
Probably the most common reported complaint of acid reflux is the heartburn.
Hope this helps…
