Hi
When I wake up I feel fine about 2 hours later my throat starts feeling tight and like something is stuck in there also sometimes the tightness radiates to my ears. I have some burping and when I eat it goes away for a while. When I eat a large meal its gone for several hours. No heartburn. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THESE WEIRD SYMPTOMS? I was tested positive for H pylori. Was on supplements and dont if its still from that or possible GERD.
Thanks

My daughter has been on Zantac since she was a month old and I haven't had any problems with the medicine except the fact that it isn't helping her. She spits up all the time. They did a stomach x-ray on her and now she might have to have surgery because the bottom of he esophagus is pinched closed. All I really want to say is I am very sorry for your loss.

You may want to be checked for gal stones in your gal bladder, sometimes acid reflux can be related to this or be mistaken for it. If the pain comes every time you eat something greasy or high in fat and it becomes so painful you feel like you're abdomen is being torn up, You may have gal stones and should have your gal bladder removed. If it is not that, I would try taking prilosec. and changing your diet, and stay away from all greasy and high fat content foods.

Presumably, an alkaline diet would help to neutralise the acidity.

When my son was an infant (now 17), he had a problem with the flap on his stomach not being developed (he was a few weeks early) and he would spit up everything, this kid was a projectile vomiter. We just limped through it, and I gave him alot of water, which helped I think. He likes water to this day, and drinks alot of it. I have never heard of a Dr. giving an infant acid reflex medicine. I have had a bad case of acid reflex myself, that I took Nexum for, for a 6 month period. I found out later that the protein drink (slimfast) that I was drinking was causing it. I stopped the protein drink and the acid reflux went away.

Change your diet to alkaline, eat fresh papaya, take enzymes before you eat and after, lots of fresh water, start taking acidolphis caps several times a day and dont drink any alcohol or eat spicy anything...give your stomach a chance to heal. Eating candied ginger helps alot to ease the pain, and if you stay on a alkaline diet ( go to yahoo and type in alkaline diet to get several webpages with recipes and food guidelines) you will feel relief fast, I would get a juicer and cleanse with a juice fast. you will be well in no time at all...

You have a weird doctor. I have it, and when it happens, it feels like you are about to get sick, and it makes your throat burn. It gets worse if you lay down, and especially if you eat certain foods, like tomatoes.

I know that my aunt dies of severe acid reflux.
the acid reflux caused the acidity of the stomach to travel up & get inhaled to the lung, over years this caused lung iritations & finally causing lung cancer ( she did not smoke 1 single cigarette in her life) & she died in 8 months.

Do you eat less than 5 hours before going to bed? Do you eat and lie on the couch watching TV? These could be causing the problem. Stay off spicy foods at dinner.

How sad! My heart goes out to you and your family. I have heard of babies getting acid reflux which I believe is quite common. Yet I don't believe it's quite common for an infant to die from this. Was an autopsy performed on the child? Again, my deepest condolences.

You may need to take up to like (3) 40 mg of Nexium a day or you may have a hernia that need repaired. See a specialist about this, not just a regular doctor.

acid reflux is also called gastroesophageal reflux or GERD,,,there may not always be symptoms and it is not always possible to confirm physiologic reflux. the most common symptom however will be heartburn that may be relieved by antacids or sitting upright. It is worsened by vigorous exercise, bending, or lying down. reflux tends to be chronic. long term reflux may show signs of bleeding, choking and dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing)

2 Tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with mother from the health food store and 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda mixed into it. Wait until it stops fizzling then pour 8 oz of water and drink it on an empty stomach. I have used this for quite awhile and it works for me.

Several possibilities arise. With acid reflux, it is possible to aspirate stomach contents into the lungs and develop pneumonia. In a severe case, you could actually suffocate.

Over time, the acid from the stomach can erode the esophagus. Eventually there could be a massive bleed out.

Acid reflux is nothing to mess with. Unfortunately, a lot of people just think they have bad indigestion and grab a tums. If you have bad heartburn on a regular basis, see a doctor.

He probably had esophogeal errosions aka his esophogas was eroded from all the acid that had backed up that he died from that. I can tell you from experience that you may not know that you have it. My dad never complained of heartburn or other problems but wound up that he was having some bleeding from some place causing his blood levels to be dangerously low. After lots of checking they found out that his esophagus was eroded and he never new it. I can full well believe that your friend knew someone that died from these kind of complications.

The symptoms of acid reflux are primarily heartburn, regurgitation, and nausea
The main symptoms are persistent heartburn and acid regurgitation. Some people have GERD without heartburn. Instead, they experience pain in the chest, hoarseness in the morning, or trouble swallowing. You may feel like you have food stuck in your throat or like you are choking or your throat is tight. GERD can also cause a dry cough and bad breath.

If stomach acid escapes the GI tract, into the lungs or abdominal cavity it can be fatal. With acid reflux, acid is escaping back into the esophagus, so it could be fatal if not treated, but you are right, if it got bad, you should go to the ER.

Try not drinking much liquid with your meals, they say that helps your food digest better because, the stomach acids don't get watered down.If you have something to drink room temp water is the best, cold iced drinks inhibit stomach acid production. Also try for more raw vegetables with your meals to aid in the fiber content. Meat is hard to digest, try baked chicken with minimal seasoning. Caffiene & chocolate can really irritate too.

Foods To Avoid On The Acid Reflux Diet

Food Group Foods To Avoid
Fruit • Orange juice
• Lemon
• Lemonade
• Grapefruit juice
• Cranberry juice
• Tomato
Vegetables • Mashed potatoes
• French fries
• Onion, raw
Meat • Ground beef, chuck
• Marbled sirloin
• Chicken nuggets
• Buffalo wings
Dairy • Sour cream
• Milk shake
• Ice cream
• Cottage cheese, regular
Grains • Macaroni and cheese
• Spaghetti with sauce
Beverages • Liquor
• Wine
• Coffee, decaffeinated or regular
• Tea, decaffeinated or regular
Fats / Oils • Salad dressing, creamy
• Salad dressing, oil & vinegar
Sweets / Desserts • Butter cookie, high-fat
• Brownie
• Chocolate
• Doughnut
• Corn chips
• Potato chips, regular

I would also suggest making sure that you look at any other medications you are taking. Advil & Aleve for pain can be irritants. Eat several hours before you go to bed. Don't snack right before bed. When sleeping, make sure that you are elevated by 2 pillows, so your not lying flat. Hope these suggestions help! You might also check with your Dr. to see if a possible change in your presciption med is needed. Good luck!!

My son had really bad reflux problems as a baby...it lasted 6 months. He was really sick and it was really hard for him to sleep, he would scream in pain and he did take meds for it. He would vomit all his food up and then scream because he was so hungry so I would feed him and he would have reflux and vomit and so on and so on. It was the hardest 6 months of my whole life.

ok, yes, I know babies with acid reflux. neither are on meds for it though. the parents have to hold them upright after they eat so they don't spit it all up. I think you mean the baby was starved to death because a strangling has nothing to do with reflux.

Yes, the person probably suffered a lot and was probably on med but if a person continues to eat the acid and drink acid causing products then the esophagus can actually bleed through. A hole can turn into a bleeder, we have veins and arteries close to the esophagus, so it is possible. more people than you'd think have this complication. It's usually someone that insists on eating and drinking as usual, doesn't change and do as Dr. says and then it's just too late. why see a Dr. if you don't do what they say. A pill doesn't cure anything. It may help some with symptoms and then the rest is up to the person.

Acid reflux, as you know, rises into the esophagus. The muscles at the top of the esophagus, known as the "upper esophageal sphincter", or "UES" clamps shut to prevent the reflux from entering your lower throat ("pharynx") and dumping into your airway and thus into your lungs. The tight closing of the UES is the body's way of protecting itself from aspiration pneumonia, which can be deadly.
Because the UES clamps so tightly, it is difficult for solids (especially meat, bread, and bagels) and small amounts of liquid to get through. A large drink of liquid will work best. Alternating solids and liquids will help "wash down" solid foods.

it will hurt

sugar is metabolized by the hydrochloric acid in your stomach, as well as by various enzymes, so you want to reduce whatever causes your stomach to churn out more acid.

i think you should consult a doctor as some diseases have similar symptoms as gerd like peptic ulcer ,chron's disease, coronary artery disease, esophagitis.symptoms of gerd are heartburn esp. within 2 hours after eating,water-brash(excessive salivation)and a sour taste in the mouth if severe.
if it is gerd you are having then u need to change ur lifestyle like decreasing coffee and chocolate, spices, raise the head of ur bed at night.losing a couple of pounds if overweight.quit smoking and drinking.

Avoid all spicy foods, food with too much salt
and any food that is naturally spicy. Stick to a bland diet and use Galvagon for your acid reflux.
This is the only OTC that touches acid reflux.

Talk with a health food store, there is so much hype on acid reflux, it is hard to really trust what you hear, do some research on your own, go the natural method because there are too many side affects with pills, and you have to what buy them for ever, they camouflage the cause and don't get to the source of the problem and fix it. Depending on your child's age and problem, the treatments will vary. Try on-line search engines by typing in acid reflux, natural cures and get some good solid information to read, then you can try and see what feels right and comfortable for you and your child, after all it is your life and your health, right?
Good luck. Sincerely, OneDreamCaster

I have a male yellow lab that eats anything and everything. At 8 months he ate a large piece of blanket. He had to have major surgery and took months to get back to normal, food wise. Once he was back eating regular dry food, he began puking when there was too long of a gap between feedings, because he had spent weeks on 3 tsps of a special bland wet food every 2 to 3 hours. I took him back to the vet, she gave him a prescription for a large white pill, not sure of the name, but was told that it was like tums for dogs, only that it works. She also gave me a script for pepcid (human medicine). Also she told me to change his food to something more natural (we now use Nutro products) and something designed for sensative stomachs. She also stated that if the dog wasn't already eating from a raised dish (which he is), he should be changed to one. Those things have all worked for us. He hasn't puked in months. Ask the vet about the white pills and whether pepcid would work...ya never know

basically my understanding of not being able to swallow as explained to me was that when i lie down and sleep the acid is like flowing up towards my throat creating a very stiff and swollen feeling that i usually get. So i'm assuming that because of the irritation the acid is providing on your throat, it is swollen and therefore making it difficult to swallow?

I've never heard of pain in the ears being a symptom of acid reflux. I've had it for a long time. It is more under control now. I used to have a pain in my throat, but it mainly hurt when I swallowed, like I had a goose egg there, but the pain actually comes from lower than it feels.

With the pain in the ears, I'm not sure. However, it DOES TAKE TIME, so hopefully she will stay with it. It takes awhile to help the scar in the esophagus.

Most babies spit up on occasion; in fact, most infants usually vomit two or more times a day. This facet of infancy is perfectly normal, and healthy babies show little distress when they spit up. But sometimes a newborn baby vomits several times a day, often an hour or more after a meal. He or she shows symptoms such as pain when spitting up, irritability, and inconsolable crying. If your newborn is showing all or some of these symptoms, you might want to speak to your pediatrician about checking for Gastroesophageal Reflux, or GER.

Reflux most commonly occurs when the ring of muscle that joins the stomach to the esophagus does not function properly. This muscle, the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES, usually opens very briefly for swallowing or vomiting, and then closes again. But in reflux cases, the muscle stays relaxed and food and stomach acids can flow back into the esophagus.

If your esophagus gets ruptured or torn, you could actually bleed to death from it.

I have acid reflux & have never had problems like that. Most of the time I have heartburn or acid indigestion or burning in my throat & esophagus. I take Protonix for this. I don't think antibiotics really help!
